Columbia Pike Animal Hospital & Emergency Center

"Living in the Herndon area, I struggled to find emergency vets nearby as they were all busy. We were redirected to Columbia Pike Animal Hospital, which was a 40 minute drive. But the drive was worth it because when we walked in with our 15 year-old beagle in our arms- they immediately rushed to get him the care he needed. After doing blood work on him, we were told he may have kidney and liver disease. We were given the option to put him to sleep peacefully or keep doing additional tests and keep him hospitalized. My family and I decided for the former as he was in so much pain and we didn’t want him to suffer. It was a very difficult decision, but Dr. Reusch was very kind and patient with us as it was our first time losing a dear pet. She kindly explained the process. We were given as much time as we needed to say goodbye to Lucky and grieve. My dog went peacefully and Dr. Reusch escorted him with care. Thank you to the kind staff ❤️‍🩹🙏 I am considering coming here in the future for my cat despite the long distance."

"After a year or so of health issues, we rushed our 15-year-old cocker spaniel, Levi, to Columbia Pike after he collapsed at home. They monitored him overnight and told us the next day that he probably was not going to get better — we paid a lot to screen for the obvious problems, but we knew what we’d probably have to do. Dr. Khomutets very patiently explained our options when we came back to visit him in person. While sobbing, I told him it felt like we were “killing” him, and he was swift to tell me that we as humans never want to prolong an animal’s suffering. I’ll never forget how explained it, forcefully but kindly. The entire process was horrible, but everyone who worked there was kind, gentle, and respectful of what we were going through. When I went to pick up Levi’s paw print, a vet tech told me how beautiful and sweet he had been, and I was touched that she remembered him."
